Waxahachie, Texas- December 18, 2015- The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) men’s basketball team lost to Evangel University , 89-81. The Lions are now 11-3 for the season. They are currently ranked no. 15 in the NAIA. Evangel is now 2-10 overall.
The first half remained close. With 4:37 left in the half, SAGU’s Tyler Pate tied the score at 32. Evangel went on a 15-5 run before the half. At the final buzzer of the half, SAGU’s Rishaad Alexander made a ¾ floor shot to put SAGU within ten, 47-37.
SAGU came out of the locker room ready to compete in the second half. By 13:04, SAGU’s Pate made a basket to put the Lions up by 2. The lead flip flopped between the two teams until Evangel took the lead with 7:49 left to play when Dylan Bekemeier made two free throws. From that point on, EU controlled the game to the end.
SAGU was led by Jason Gentry with 19 points. Rishaad Alexander had 16 points. Isaak Rowe and Keyunta Watkins each had 12 points. Rowe also had seven rebounds.
For EU, Dylan Bekemeier had 27 points. Jalen Norman and Richard Chapman each had 15 points.&
SAGU will now take the rest of the year off for Christmas break. On Thursday, January 8, 2016 the Lions will travel to play a Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) game against Southwestern Christian (7-2). Game time is at 8pm.
