Waxahachie, TX – The NAIA Preseason NAIA Coaches’ Poll came out on Monday, and SAGU checked in at #22 in a tie with Arizona Christian University. The two Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) members were two of three SAC teams ranked in the Top 25 along with Langston.
SAGU finished the 2017 campaign ranked 19 th in the final NAIA Coaches’ Poll. The highest rank achieved by the Lions in 2017 was a #17 in the final regular season ranking. The 2018 poll appearance marks the first time SAGU football has been ranked to begin the season. The Lions open their 2018 season on Thursday, August 23 rd , at Evangel University at 6:00 PM. This game is the first of the NAIA season.
SAGU’s senior quarterback, CJ Collins, was picked as the SAC Preseason Offensive Player of the Year. He leads a record-breaking offense which features multiple returners at the skill positions. The Bosqueville, TX native was the CSFL Offensive Player of the Year following the 2017 season.
