Waxahachie, Texas – December 23, 2016 – Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) recently hosted its 8th annual “Christmas at SAGU” in the Hagee Communication Center.
With hundreds in attendance, estimates indicate that this year’s event was one of the largest intended installments to date.
Devin Ferguson, Director of Alumni Relations said, “The 8th annual Christmas at SAGU was another thrilling success.”
Although rainy weather on the day of the event added a minor obstacle, quick adjustments were made to relocate the event. The bulk of the lights display is still on the front lawn facing Sycamore Street. However, the event was successfully relocated to the Hagee Communication Center.
“We are very thankful to have the beautiful Hagee Communication Center as a contingency when needed,” Ferguson said.
This year’s event had live Christmas music presented by the SAGU Choir and Chorale, Jazz Band and The Harvesters. In addition to live entertainment, there were also pictures with Santa, homemade treats and ornament decorating.
The annual Christmas tradition dates back to 2009 when the SAGU community wanted to join in the holiday tradition that engulfs Waxahachie during the Christmas season. Along with joining SAGU’s hometown tradition, the event was also a way to bring Christmas cheer to students during the few weeks after Thanksgiving and leading up to finals.
Ferguson said, “Our goal is to provide a beautiful light display for our students, campus family and the entire community.”
This year’s event was sponsored by Southwestern Women’s Auxiliary, Aramark, the SAGU Foundation and several individual donors and families from among SAGU’s alumni and friends. Christmas by Zenith, the contractor utilized for the installation of the campus lighting, also provided a donation for the lighting of the Hagee Communication Center to be free of charge.
SAGU’s campus will continue to display the lights through the New Year holiday.
