Waxahachie, Texas – Thursday, November 12, 2015 – Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) hosts the 2nd annual SAGU Futsal Christmas Classic Tournament on December 19-20, 2015, in the Claxton and Sheaffer Center Gymnasiums .

Head men’s soccer coach Clem Oancea added, “We are excited to continue this annual futsal tournament.” He continued, “We hope this becomes a new tradion to bring friends and family together before the holidays.”

Futsal is a modified form of soccer that is played on an indoor court. It was developed in Uruguay and Brazil in the 1930s and 1940s. The game is five-on-five and played with in bound lines. Futsal is also played with a smaller ball with less bounce than a regular football due to the surface of the pitch. The surface, ball and rules create an emphasis on improvisation, creativity and technique as well as ball control and passing in small spaces.

Registration is opened now. The tournament entrance fee is $300 with a roster size of 8-12 players. Group Stage will consist of three games with a maximum of five. Games begin on Saturday, December 19–20, 2015.
