Waxahachie, Texas — March 2, 2016 — Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) will host the David’s March and The Purple and Gold Celebration Run on Saturday, April 2, 2016. Check-in for the event begins at 9 a.m. The 5K kicks off at the SAGU Claxton Athletic Center at 10 a.m. with the Purple and Gold Run following at 11 a.m. All proceeds will go toward the David B. Bush Memorial Scholarship. Participants can register online.

Registration for the 5K is $35 per person. The shorter, 1-mile Purple and Gold Run is only $10 per person. All proceeds benefit the David B. Bush Memorial Scholarship.

The scholarship honors form SAGU IT Director David Bush who passed away in 2014 after a battle with stage 4 lymphoma. David always prioritized faith, family and friends – investing his life in service and pastoring. He particularly enjoyed seeing people of diverse cultures coming together for a common purpose – best seen when he helped plant the multi-cultural Harmony Church which he later pastored.

President Kermit Bridges said, “David fought the good fight, finished his race, and kept the faith in a manner I have seldom witnessed in my life. This remarkable brother inspired believers to a deeper faith while unbelievers had the opportunity to witness and encounter the reality of God.”

The first David’s March run was established in 2014 under the leadership of Head Men’s Basketball Coach Donny Bostwick who was a close friend of David’s. Bostwick shared, “Words cannot explain the faith David and Joy Bush demonstrated in the midst of their battle with cancer. Their love for each other and their Savior left a lasting imprint and their story will continue to touch many more lives for years to come.”

Regarding the David’s March Celebration Run, Bostwick added “Everything we do in the event is a celebration of David’s life.”
