McPherson, KS- Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Women’s Basketball played their third consecutive road game on Saturday afternoon as they took on Central Christian College (Kan.) (CCCK). The Lady Lions (12-13, 7-11) got the win and inched closer to a .500 overall record as they defeated the Lady Tigers (7-19, 3-14) by the score of 74-65.

Alexis Casher scored 15 and grabbed 13 boards in a win over CCCK

Top Performers

  • Alexis Casher ( JR/Irvington, AL ) had another double-double scoring 15 points and snatching 13 rebounds.
  • Tamera Derrough ( SO/Mansfield, TX ) and Lexi Rich ( SR/San Antonio, TX ) also scored 15 points while Sydney Meador ( JR/Denton, TX ) pitched in 14 points of her own.
  • Rich led the team by dishing out 5 assists.
  • The rebounding battle was tied up at 49-49, but SAGU outscored the Lady Tigers in the paint 32-20.
  • SAGU shot 34% (25-73) from the field including 18% (4-22) from behind the arc.

Lions Review

  • Kiara Glenn ( JR/Ennis, TX ) kicked off the scoring for SAGU with a triple to give the Lady Lions the lead 3-2.
  • An offensive rebound and putback by Derrough tied the game at 9-9 with 4:31 left in the opening quarter.
  • SAGU didn’t lead again until Rich scored with under two minutes left to make it 15-14. SAGU would trail 18-15 after the first quarter.
  • The Lions found themselves down 23-17 at 8:38 in the second quarter.
  • A quick 7-0 run gave SAGU the lead back at 24-23.
  • CCCK would battle back, but Casher pulled down a board and got the basket to go to give the Lady Lions the lead back at 31-30 with 1:57 before the half.
  • Derrough knocked down a pair of free throws to give SAGU a 34-32 lead at the break.
  • Five straight points by Derrough gave SAGU the 40-39 lead
  • Rich tied the game at 43-43 with a three-point basket.
  • The two teams would trade the lead but found themselves tied once again 48-48 after a couple Lady Tigers free throws. CCCK would lead going into the final quarter by the score of 53-52.
  • Meador scored a couple of quick baskets to give SAGU a 56-53 lead.
  • Glenn gave them the Lady Lions a 64-59 lead after a couple of free throws with 4:21 to go.
  • CCCK closed to with one point at 64-63, but SAGU was too much down the stretch ending on a 7-2 run to win 74-65.

What’s Next

SAGU looks to even their record on this road trip as they battle Texas Wesleyan University on Tuesday, February 25 th at 6:00 pm.
