Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) football Wayland Baptist University th

After their 43-6 victory over #10 ranked Arizona Christian University , the Lions are currently ranked #23 in the NAIA Top 25 Poll.  SAGU is now in a three-way tie for the top spot in the Central States Football League (CSFL) with Langston University and Oklahoma Panhandle State University .

In CSFL play, SAGU has outscored their opponents 137-20.  The Lions are currently ranked #17 in the NAIA in total scoring offense. That offense is led by junior quarterback CJ Collins who averages 266.8 total yards per game and has a passing completion percentage of 53%.  Senior running back JP Lowery has carried the ball for 533 yards this season, averaging 106 yards per game.

Defensively, the Lions are led by defensive backs Matt Williams with seven tackles per game and Matt Lighter with one sack per game. SAGU currently ranks #21 in scoring defense per game, holding opponents to 22 points per game.

Wayland Baptist quarterback Mitchell Parsley averages 242 passing yards per game for a WBU team who ranks #25 (NAIA) in total pass offense with 1479 yards this season. Wayland has seven passing touchdowns on the year and five rushing touchdowns.

SAGU Head Football Coach Frank Tristan knows that his team must come focused and ready to play on Saturday against a good WBU team. Coach Tristan says, “Wayland is a very well-coached football team and they have some electric players on both sides of the ball. I know our guys will be excited to get on the field again after the bye week.  We just need to be solid against a sharp Wayland Baptist team.”

There will be a tailgate in the parking lot of Lumpkins Stadium from 11:00 AM until game time at 2:00 PM.  All are invited to attend.  The game will be broadcast live at LIVESTREAM.COM/SAGULIVE.
