The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) football team played their last regular season game of the year Saturday in Phoenix, AZ . The Lions were defeated by a score of 30-34 by Arizona Christian University to finish with a 5-5 record and 4-4 in the Sooner Athletic Conference . SAGU is currently is 5th place in the SAC but could jump in the standings depending on how ACU and Ottawa University do in their final games on Saturday, November 11.
The Lions finished the 1st halftime winning 24-14 then ACU scored the next three touchdowns giving them their 34 points and a 24-34 lead the Lions would be unable to close in on. Quarterback, CJ Collins had 307 passing yards for four touchdowns with two of them going to Blayne Rowe and the other two going to Toras Hill . Jeremy Carr led the receivers with 11 catches and 86 yards. Running back, Michael Bledsoe had his third 100+ rushing yard game of the season with 118 yards. Landon Jones and Marco Mathews led the defensive side of the ball with Jones have 15 tackles and Mathews with 10. Defensive lineman, Marcus Rodriguez had the lone sack of the day for the Lions. Defensive backs, Maliek Golden and Christian Cross each had an interception on ACU’s Adam Abbatacola . This is Cross’s seventh interception on the year which is 2nd in the nation and is 5th in the nation with 0.700 interceptions per game.
For the 2018-2019 season the Lions end the season ranked nationally in multiple categories; 2nd in 4th down conversions, 2nd in total pass offense, 3rd for pass offense per game, 12th in penalty yards per game, 15th in first downs per game and total scoring offense, 18th in total offensive yards per game and field goal percentage, 21st in pass efficiency, 22nd in scoring offense per game, 32nd in PAT kicking, 33rd in opponents 3rd down conversion, 35th in pass defense efficiency, and 36th in opponents 4th down conversion.
Southwestern Assemblies of God University is a private, Christian university located 30 minutes south of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex in Waxahachie, Texas.
