Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) football East Texas Baptist University Hardin-Simmons
Head coach Frank Tristan acknowledges that the Lions aren’t at full steam, but he isn’t too worried about it, “We are deep at a lot of our positions. The guys have been working hard all preseason so I believe everyone that will see time is ready to play.”
For the first time in over two years, SAGU fans will see a quarterback other than CJ Collins starting. Sophomore Lincoln Kenitzer will be leading the Lions offense. Last season, Kenitzer played in five games. Against Texas Lutheran, he went four-for-six in passing for 77 yards and two touchdowns. Against Texas College he also rushed for one touchdown.
“Lincoln is an outstanding leader and the guys really respond to his leadership,” explains Tristan, “He is very good at reading the defense and making quick decisions.”
Hardin-Simmons is currently 1-0 and ranked no. 12 in the nation in the NCAA Division III. HSU is led by senior quarterback Ryan Breton . His favorite target is sophomore wide receiver Reese Childress . In game one, Breton had three touchdowns for 207 yards. Last year he threw for 22 touchdowns and only five interceptions. In the season debut, Childress had five catches for 119 yards with three touchdowns.
Game time is at 6pm and will be played at Lumpkins Stadium. For those unable to attend the game, SAGU Sports Network will be broadcasting live.
