Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) professors presented during the Florida League of Christian Schools (FLOCS) Educators Conference this past November.
The organization’s Educators Conference allowed educators and others working for Christian academic institutions throughout the nation to collaborate with one another and share effective ideas for teaching within the classroom. Keynote speakers for the conference included LaSharnda Beckwith , Founder of Beckwith Leadership Consulting Group , and Douglas E. Clay , General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God .
Dr. Christine Wirth, Education Department Chair, was one of four faculty members from SAGU’s Education Department who presented at the conference. “I consider it a joy and privilege to be able to speak to so many Christian educators at the FLOCS conference,” says Dr. Wirth. “They sacrificially educate students each and every day and it’s an honor to be able to share some research and ideas that may help them improve the teaching and learning processing in their schools/classrooms.”
Along with Dr. Wirth, Professors Dr. LaShera McElhany, Dr. Paula Manley and Dr. Chere Blair presented during the Educators Conference.
Dr. McElhany shared over numerous topics such as reasons why educators should grow a personal learning network on Twitter, Introduction to Google G Suite for Education Apps, moral and spiritual development in young children and several others.
“We were well received by the participants and many have reached out to us beyond the conference for additional resources and information,” says McElhany. “The participants were eager to learn and highly interested in the topics shared, especially the instructional technology topics. For many, the instructional tech tools presented were new, so it was exciting to see the ideas start rolling as they saw potential what was presented.”
Dr. Chere Blair and Dr. Paula Manley spoke over a number of topics as well including student engagement, critical thinking strategies, reading comprehension strategies and teacher evaluations.
“As a former Christian school administrator, it was good to be back among educators who are committed to quality Christian education at the K-12 level,” said Dr. Manley. “I also currently serve on the school board of a local Christian school, so I enjoyed getting to see what other Christian schools are doing that is innovative and helping their students succeed in addition to networking with administrators and teachers from those schools.”
Dr. Blair said, “It was really fun getting to know other Christian educators and to help connect them with resources. I also learned a great deal from the participants about what they’re doing in their classrooms.
The Education Department has been invited to present again for the FLOCS Educators Conference this coming November.
