Tamera Derrough scores 17 points in loss to TXWU

Waxahachie, TX – Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) battled Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) opponent Texas Wesleyan University (TXWU) Tuesday night at the Sheaffer Center. The Lady Lions (4-3, 1-1) fell to a tough Rams team (5-1, 2-0) by the score of 76-66.

Top Performers

  • Tamera Derrough ( SO/Mansfield, TX ) led the Lady Lions in scoring with 17
  • There were three other SAGU players in double-figure scoring: Lexi Rich ( SR/ San Antonio, TX ) (15), Kiara Glenn ( JR/Ennis, TX ) (12) and Sydney Meador ( JR/Denton, TX ) (10).
  • Phillipa Greene ( JR/Freeport/Bahamas ) pulled down a team-high 8 rebounds.
  • SAGU shot 84% from the free-throw line as a team

Lion Review

  • The Lions seemed to sleepwalk through the first couple minutes of the game as they found themselves in a quick 6-0 hole.
  • SAGU quickly put together a 15-3 run to take a 15-9 lead with 2:31 left in the first quarter.
  • SAGU went cold in the opening minutes of the second quarter allowing TXWU to pull close at 24-23.
  • The teams traded baskets as the game remained tight. Sydney Meador scored as the second quarter ended drawing the Lions within 3 points (35-32).
  • Rich gave the Lions their first lead of the second half (40-39) with a deep three-pointer.
  • Derrough kept SAGU close with a combination of free throws and three-point field goals as they trailed 52-51 at the end of the third quarter.
  • The Lions went on a 4-minute scoring drought as the Rams built a 65-54 advantage.
  • TXWU would not relinquish the lead again as they won 76-66.

What’s Next

The Lady Lions (4-3, 1-1) will travel to Louisiana to take on LSU-Shreveport on December 17 th at 2:00 pm.
