Waxahachie, TX – The Hutson Tillotson University (HTU) Rams and the Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) battled in an afternoon men’s soccer match on Tuesday with HTU prevailing 2-1 at the Lions Athletic Complex. • SAGU outshot HTU in shots 17-14 and shots on goal 12-8.
  • Mazvita Chidarara (JR/Harare, Zimbabwe) score the lone goal for the Lions in the match. The score game in the second half and tied the game at 1-1. This was Chidarara’s third goal of the season.
  • SAGU started slow offensively. The Lions did not record a shot for the first 24 minutes of the match. From that point they peppered the HTU goalie with shots.

  • Since the first match of the year, SAGU has tied one game and had two one point losses playing with great effort and continuing to improve in each game.

Oancea’s Opinion

  • On needed growth: “Games are where your preparation and attitude come together for the test. There are players that have lots of confidence in practice and boldness by themselves but as soon as they enter a game are totally different. We need to grow through that stage.”
  • On the day’s effort: “Today we competed well and created plenty of opportunities and 1v1. We had four clear chances in the first half and unfortunately we did not put them away. We made two mistakes and those mistakes turned in two goals.
  • On moving forward: “It hurts but we have grown even more as a team and the boys are more and more becoming a team trusting each other abilities and strengths. That is a win in my book even though it hurts. Growing pains always hurts but it is a good pain that helps us move forward.”

The Next Step

  • On Tuesday, September 17th the Lions will play LSU-Alexandria on the campus of SAGU in a 4:30 match.
