Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) cross country Walt Disney World Classic Oklahoma Baptist University

Despite the stressful change in travel, head coach Jason Covarrubias believes the change worked in SAGU’s favor.  The OBU course will be the same one they will run for the Sooner Athletic Conference Championships in four weeks.  “Most of my runners needed to see the difficulty of the course; it is very deceiving to say the least.  Your eyes say it’s flat but your legs tell you different!  The teams ran well, the competition was tough, and we didn’t bow down,” says Covarrubias.

SAGU stand-out Destiny Garza finished fourth in the women’s 5K.  Out of 138 runners, she finished in 18:50. Caitlin Cruz finished in 22:19 and Genny McCullough finished at 22:53.  The women’s team got 14 th place out of 15.

On the men’s side, Jerry Nava finished 23 rd out of 88 runners.  He crossed the finish line of the 8K at 26:51. Adrian Cedilla finished 38 th at 27:31.  The Lions placed 7 th out of ten teams.

“We have one more meet in a couple weeks, and this will be when they see all of our conference at the NAIA Mid-States Classic .  It will be fast and we will be ready to join in on the speed,” says Covarrubias excitedly.

On October 22, 2016, SAGU will travel to Winfield, Kansas for the Mid-States Classic.  Start time is at 8am.
