Clinton, MS – Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Men’s and Women’s Cross-Country team competed at the Mississippi College 2020 Watson Invitational today. 
Robert HerreraFor the Women’s team this event was their first of the season and kicked off their 2020 campaign. The Men’s team was looking to pick off where they left off in the last meet. This was a very challenging course for both teams especially since the competition was high. It made for a very difficult test but both teams fared well in the competitive environment.

Notable Performers
  • Arturo Valdez (JR/Eagle Pass, TX) ran a great race and posted his second fastest 8k time while at SAGU.
  • With the addition of Robert Herrera (SR/Lyford, TX) the team added a key piece that it was missing in the previous race.  Herreras presence really helped this young team push through.
  • The Lady Lions were led by two Freshman, Yahaira Almaguer and Olga Robles who finished the race less than 45 seconds apart.
Crossing the Finish Line
  • The Lions finished eighth in the meet with an average time of 29:20.
  • Robert Herrera was the top performer for the Lions and finished the 8k race in 27:44.6
  • The Lady Lions finished ninth in the meet with an overall time of 2:13:47.   
  • Yahaira Almaguer was the top performer for the Lady Lion’s in the 5k 23:42.6.

  • SAGU Cross Country runs again on October 24th at the NAIA Mid-States Classicin Winfield, KS.
