SAGU Senior Setter Sophia Ivy

Waxahachie, TX – The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) volleyball team took on the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (USAO) in an attempt to complete a Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) weekend sweep. Coupled with a Mid-America Christian University loss to Texas Wesleyan University the Lady Lions are now alone in fourth place in the SAC one game behind Texas College. SAGU (13-6, 7-3) cruised through three sets by scores of 25-8, 25-6 and 25-12 to win the match.

Lady Lion Review

  • The USAO match marked the end of the first time around the conference for each team. SAGU now begins the second round of the double round-robin conference schedule.
  • USAO hit -0.132 (11-18-53) for the match. SAGU hit .550 (39-6-60).
  • Fourteen Lady Lions saw action in the contest.
  • Ava Myers (FR/Round Top, TX) hit .625 (11-1-16) to lead SAGU in kills. However, Alexis Mealer, (SO/Arlington, TX) led in hitting percentage at .750 with no errors and nine kills.
  • SAGU committed only six errors in the three sets.
  • SAGU blocked USAO six times in the three sets achieving their team goal of two blocks per set.

Moore’s Musings

  • “We played exceptionally well. Another conference win puts us at 7-3 and playing at a very strong level. Our tempo today was excellent. Our hitters had a great match. Sophia [Ivey] had another good match. This weekend our kids played very strong. I’m very proud of our young players who really played very well. Our freshmen showed great growth this weekend.”

The Next Step

SAGU will play at home on the weekend of October 11 th and 12 th . On the 11 th SAGU will take part in a tri-match with conference opponent Langston University and non-conference opponent University of Southwest from Hobbes, NM. SAGU will play Langston at 4:00 pm and University of Southwest at 8:00 pm. On Saturday the 12 th of October SAGU will take on Central Christian College at 11:00 am as part of Homecoming festivities.
