​ Junior Phillipa Greene recorded a double-double in loss to HTU ​

Waxahachie, TX – Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) was at home Thursday night at the Sheaffer Center on SAGU campus against Huston-Tillotson University (HTU). The Lady Lions (2-2, 0-0) went cold in the closing minutes of the game falling to HTU (3-1, 0-0) by the score of 78-69.

Lions Top Performers

  • Sydney Meador ( JR/ Denton, TX ) lead the Lions in scoring with 27 points.
  • Kiara Glenn ( JR/Ennis, TX ) and Phillip a Greene ( JR/Freeport, Bahamas ) each scored 10 points but were the only other SAGU players to reach double-figure scoring.
  • Greene had a double-double by adding in a game-high 17 rebounds.
  • The Lady Lions dominated the rebounding battle 45-29
  • SAGU shot 5-20 from the three-point line compared to an efficient 4-8 for HTU.

Lions Review

  • The game was tightly contested throughout the first quarter. The largest lead was five by HTU, but there were four ties during the quarter.
  • SAGU used a 10-1 run to build a 28-20 lead midway through the second quarter.
  • HTU answered right back with a 17-6 run to close out the half and take a 37-34 lead into the locker room.
  • Kiara Glenn scored with 7:47 left in the fourth quarter to draw SAGU with two points at 62-60. SAGU didn’t score again until Glenn hit another shot in the paint (71-62) with 3:07 left in the game.
  • HTU shot 11-12 FT (91%) down the stretch to end any thoughts of a comeback for SAGU.

SAGU will hit the road and try to get off to a good start in Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) as they play John Brown University on Thursday, November 21 st at 6:00 pm in Siloam Springs, Arkansas.
