Oklahoma City, Ok – January 17, 2016- The game went down to the wire in overtime, but the Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) men’s basketball team hit a last-second three pointer to beat Oklahoma City University (OCU), 78-75.  SAGU, who is currently ranked no. 18 in the NAIA, is in first place in the Sooner Athletic Conference with a record of 5-1.  OCU is now 3-3 in the SAC.

The entire game was a nail biter.  The biggest lead either team had was by five points.  With 8:32 left in the first half, OCU ‘s Terence Bonhomme made a three pointer to make the score 24-19.  SAGU was able to go on a 17-10 run and by halftime the Lions were ahead 36-34.

Head coach Donnie Bostwick says despite the scoreboard, there was always calmness during the game, “I love when you just feel that if you stay the course, things will work out. It was one of those nights. It is hard to explain but fun to experience.”

For much of the second half the Lions kept the small lead.  With 1:23 left in regulation, Bonhomme hit a three pointer to put OCU up by two.  The Star’s Jamil Donovan made one free throw to make the game 71-68.  With 0:45 on the clock, SAGU’s Rishaad Alexander hit a three pointer to tie the game for the 10 th time of the night.  The score was 71 all.

With 1:39 left in overtime, OCU’s Bonhomme made a basket to tie the score at 75.  On SAGU’s next trip down the court Emmanuel Adoyi missed a three point shot.  The Stars got the rebound and took back possession.  OCU’s Donovan missed a two point shot and Noel Allen got the offensive rebound.  SAGU’s Adoyi made a timely steal.

After a SAGU timeout, Keyunta Watkins assisted Jason Gentry in a three point shot with nine seconds left.  The Lions win, 78-75.

SAGU senior Rishaad Alexander had 28 points.  Senior Jason Gentry added 20 points and senior Emmanuel Adoyi had 16 points, 10 rebounds and three steals.

OCU’s Terence Bonhomme led all scorers with 30 points.

On Thursday, January 21, 2016, SAGU will travel to play Mid-America Christian. MACU is currently ranked no. 15 in the NAIA and they are second in the SAC.  MACU is 14-3 overall and 4-1 in the SAC.
