The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) basketball teams swept their conference opponents for the third matchup in a row when Central Christian College came to Sheaffer Center . The women got out to a 46 point lead 37 minutes into the game; SAGU scored over 100 points for the second time this with their 115 to 84 victory. The Lady Lions are now 5th in the Sooner Athletic Conference being one game behind Texas Wesleyan for fourth. The men had their second overtime thriller of the week when Nyk Mason made a free throw with two seconds left in the game to give them the 101-99 lead; CCC’s Torrey Henry heaved a pass down court deflected by Mitch McCullen and secured by Mason.

The women are on a three-game winning streak; this is their third three-game winning streak of the season. Sydney Meador (22), Jenna Price (22), Mckenzie Martin (21), and Lexi Rich (19) combined for 84 of their 115 points during their 11th victory of the season. Price led the Lady Lions in rebounding with eight then Meador and DyTeesha Diggles followed with six. They were impressive assisting on 26 of their 34 buckets Saturday night; Kiarra Glenn with seven, Tamerra Derrough finished with six, and Rich with six. Derrough also had eight points and a team-high five steals. After the win, they rank in the top 10 nationally for 3 pointers made per game, free throw percentage, total 3 pointers made, and 3 point field goal percentage.

The men continue to climb in the SAC standings after winning their fifth conference game in their last six now being tied for fourth with John Brown University . The Lions are 1.5 games out of 1st place where Wayland Baptist University sits with a 7-1 conference record. Nyk Mason led the way 26 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Kobe Wrice had his best game as a Lion in a much needed time with 20 points, five rebounds, two steals, and one assist. Josh Kashilla and Dareny Sims both ended up scoring double digits with 16 from Kashila on top of six rebounds then Sims with 14 points, four assists, three rebounds, and one steal. The key to their victory was knocking down 39 of their 43 free throws for 90.7%; they now lead the nation in steals per game averaging over 11.

Their next game will be against fellow SAC opponent Southwestern Christian University at SAGU. The games on Thursday, 1/17/19 will begin at 6 pm followed by the men at 8 pm.
