The first round of conference play is finished after the Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) women and men basketball teams traveled to Oklahoma City University on Saturday. The women lost coming back from an eight-point deficit at the end of the first quarter when Lexi Rich hit a 3 pointer as time expired 79-79 to send it to overtime. The Lady Lions were defeated by a score of 79-94 after the five minute overtime. The men caught the Stars on one of their best shooting night since their first game of the season scoring 106 to SAGU’s 80. With 11 games left in the regular season, the women sit in 5th place tied with Texas Wesleyan University with a 6-5 SAC record and the men finished similar with a 6-5 in sole position of 6th one game behind 3rd.

The women took one of the top teams in the country to overtime as Lexi Rich scored her 2nd 30 point game of the season with 39, four rebounds, and three assists. Jenna Price grabbed 10 rebounds, two assists, and one steal to go along with 13 points for another double-double. Tierra Derrough led them in assist with four in 14 minutes of play. The Lady Lions are half a game behind Mid America Christian University and two games behind John Brown University for 3rd place in the SAC .

Nyk Mason was efficient for his third 20+ game of the season with 24 points on 5-8 shooting from the field and knocking down 14 of 20 free throws in 28 minutes. Josh Kashila scored 19 points, five rebounds, three assists, one block, and one steal. Junior guard, Dareny Sims was next for SAGU with 10 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and two steals. The Stars Chris Williams had 23 to lead OCU and Elijah Christman finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds.

This weeks games for SAGU will both be on the road; Thursday night’s game will be at Bacone College with the women at 6 pm and the men at 8 pm then Saturday they will travel to John Brown University for a 1 pm start on the women side and 3 pm tipoff for the men.
