The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) basketball teams split with Wayland Baptist University on Saturday, February 23rd. The women came from behind to win a pivotal game for the conference tournament seeding, 67-62. The men lost against the SAC regular champions, 78-92 for their last regular season game of the year.

The women were led by Lexi Rich and Sydney Meador as they both played over 35 minutes each. Rich had a double-digit second half where she ended up with 18 points and two rebounds. Meador was good for 18 points, six rebounds, five steals, and two assists. Kiara Glenn also stayed in double figures for the fifth time in the six last contests with 10 points and two rebounds. Eva Atunwa led the Lady Lions in rebounds with 11 to go along with five points, two steals and one block. They will face Mid-America Christian Tuesday night, 2/26 at 6 pm for the first round of the Sooner Athletic Conference tournament in Waxahachie . This a 4/5 matchup where they split with MACU in the regular season and the Lady Lions won the only game at the Sheaffer Center . The winner will face the winner of Oklahoma Panhandle State University and Oklahoma City University at OCU Friday night, the time is to be determined.

The men had four players in double-digits on senior night; Nyk Mason (19), Cameron Hill (18), Josh Kashila (14), and Darian Davis (10) . Mason also led SAGU in rebounds with eight, to go along with four assists, and one steal. Cameron McGee was next with seven rebounds, six points, and three assists. Kaodirichi Akobundu had his fifth three block game of the season as he climbs the rankings to 41st nationally in blocks per game with over one. The men’s conference tournament starts with a game at John Brown University Tuesday night at 7 pm against the Golden Eagles. The Lions were swept by JBU in the regular season, and the winner of the 2/7 matchup will face the winner of USAO and MACU on Friday in Oklahoma City .
