The Lady Lions are currently 6-2. Their two loses come from Bellevue College (Nebraska) and Wiley College . SAGU is being strongly led by their three seniors; Charity Page , Laken Ward and Alexis McAfee .
Page is leading SAGU in scoring, averaging nearly 18 points per game. Ward is leading in rebounding with an average of 13 rebounds per game. McAfee is averaging 1.5 steals per game.
Texas Wesleyan women’s basketball is currently 4-3 overall. Katelynn Threats is leading the Lady Rams in both scoring and rebounding. She averages over 15 points per game and 12 rebounds.
SAGU and TWU ladies share three common opponents so far. Both teams have played Wiley College , Texas College and Southwest (New Mexico). Wiley gave both teams a loss. The Lady Wildcats topped SAGU 63-41 and TWU 59-51.
For the men, SAGU is currently 8-2 and receiving votes in the NAIA National Poll. TWU is currently ranked no. 20 in the NAIA. They are coming into Saturday’s game on a two game losing streak.
SAGU’s Keyunta Watkins leads the Lions in scoring and assists. He is averaging nearly 19 points a game and nearly three assists as well. Dion Rogers leads the Rams in scoring with 17 points per game.
Like the women’s teams, Wiley is the one common opponent that has handed both teams a loss. Wiley beat TWU 70-61. They also topped the Lions 83-70 early in November. SAGU did turn around two weeks later and topped the Wildcats at home 82-73.
Saturday’s game will be played at the Sid Richardson Center in Fort Worth on the campus of Texas Wesleyan. The Lady Lions play at 3pm, followed by the men at 5pm. TWU will be streaming the game live .
