The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) baseball team has won their second straight Sooner Athletic Conference series after winning two games against Oklahoma Panhandle State University and dropping one. The Lions won game one 9-7, game two 6-5, and lost the third game 10-12 against the Aggies.
AJ Munoz, Kyle Coolidge, Andrew Diaz, and Houston Johnson all had double-hit games to help the Lions drive in nine runs to start the series off with a win. Munoz went three for three with one RBI and being two of the nine runs. He is ranked nationally in doubles with 13 which places him 5th in all of NAIA, 10th in doubles per games (0.48), and 19th in total runs scored at 32. Coolidge is batting .313 on the season after going two for four with two RBI’s and one run. Diaz went two for two with an RBI and one run on the win. Johnson landed at the 36th place in the nation after hitting his ninth double of the season. Damian Garcia recorded his first win of the season after pitching a perfect game in his 1.1 innings of work, no hits or runs while striking out one batter. Munoz also got the save when he faced seven batters for only one hit and one earned run.
The Lions won off of a walk-off double in the bottom of the 7th inning when Ben Bills doubled over right field that brought Munoz home for a 6-5 victory. Bills, Diaz, and Munoz each had doubles that accounted for three of their five hits. Munoz and Bills came in a pivotal time of the time that propelled the Lions to score the sixth run of the game and account for their 15th win of the season. Augie Martinez got his third win of the season after allowing two earned runs and four hits pitching six of the seven innings.
Game three the Lions gave up 17 hits and 12 runs behind three errors. SAGU’s Joseph Vazquez went three for four with an RBI and one run. Tanner Lindle hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the 7th inning for his second of the year before losing 10-12.
They will travel to Plainview, TX this weekend for a three-game series against Wayland Baptist University . Games one and two are on 3/23 at 1 pm and 4 pm then Saturday’s finale is at 1 pm against the Pioneers.
