Waxahachie, Texas – March 6, 2016- Southwestern Assembly of God University(SAGU) baseball team opened up their conference schedule with a three game home stand versus Oklahoma City University.

Game 1: OCU 13  SAGU 3 (L)  9-13 overall 0-1 conf.
Jake Clary (0-3), sophomore, started the game for SAGU only going 1+ inning and giving up 6 runs for the loss.  Co-captain Collin Gifford, junior, came in relief going 4 2/3 innings allowing 1 run while walking only 1.  Freshmen Auston Moore and Caleb Carnell added a strikeout each in their appearance.

Offensively, Brett Carroll, sophomore, went 1 for 3 with an RBI in his first start of the season.  Brett played solid defense to go along with his day at the plate.

Co-captain Raul Castro, junior, continued his hot start of the season going 1 for 4 with a double and a RBI.

Game 2: OCU 8  SAGU 0 (L)  9-14 overall 0-2 conf.
Co-captain Jacob Keltner (2-3), sophomore, started the game for SAGU.  Keltner would go 6 innings allowing 4 runs, walking 3 and striking out 2.  OCU’s batters hit good pitches that seemed to find the holes and took the extra base on bobbled balls and balls in the gap.  Freshman AJ Munoz would take the mound for the seventh inning allowing 4 runs on 3 hits.

Offensively, Carroll went 1 for 2 with a sacrifice bunt.

Shortstop Chris Wallace, sophomore, went 2 for 3.

Game 3: OCU 15  SAGU 3 (L)  9-15 overall 0-3 conf.

The Lions would send sophomore Brandon Ventura (3-2) to the mound looking to take the final game of the series.  Ventura lasted just 3 innings giving up 8 runs 1 walk and 1 strike out.

The Lions would try to stop the bleeding with several relievers, but only sophomore Keegan Harris put up a zero and Moore allowed only one run.

Offensively, the Lions scattered three runs over seven innings and were not able to scratch runs across with men on base.

Outfielder Josh Terry, junior, went 2 for 3 with a double on the day.  Senior outfielder Eric Hagstrom went 2 for 4 with a stolen base.

Up next, the Lions will continue Sooner Athletic Conference play when they travel to play St. Gregory’s University on Friday, March 11-12, 2016.  Friday’s game stars at 3pm and Saturday the doubleheader begins at 1pm.
