Waxahachie, Texas—The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) football team will be vying for their eighth win of the season on Saturday and their first ever win over Langston. Saturday’s game will also be a chance at winner takes all for the Central States Football League (CSFL) conference championship. The Lions last conference championship came in 2013. SAGU and Langston are currently tied for first place in the CSFL standings with both teams boosting a 6-0 record in the CSFL.

The SAGU offense is on pace to set season records for scoring offense, scoring offense per game, total offense, total offense per game, and pass efficiency. That offense is led by junior quarterback CJ Collins, and senior running backs JP Lowery and Ricky Bickham. Currently, Collins is the career record leader for passing touchdowns with 59 and tied for single season passing touchdowns with 21. This season he has passed for 2,142 yards, averaging 267 passing yards per game. Lowery is one rushing touchdown away from the SAGU season record of 12. Bickham is the career rusher in SAGU football history with 2,215 yards.

Defensively, SAGU is ranked 12th in the NAIA.  The Lions are giving up only 323.8 yards per game. Carl Morgan is tied for career interceptions with 18 and Matt Lighter is the SAGU career sacks leader with 17.5 sacks.

Langston is ranked first in defensive pass efficiency and scoring defense per game. Coach Frank Tristan knows how much this game means to his squad and how hard they have worked to get to this point. Tristan said, “This is going to be a really tough game. Langston has a phenomenal defense and they are really explosive. They require a ton of preparation because they do so many things so well. Our guys are excited for the opportunity.”

The SAGU vs. Langston game was also chosen as the NAIA Game of the Week by fan voting and will be broadcasted live on the SAGU Sports Network. Game time is set for 2:00 PM at Lumpkins Stadium in Waxahachie, Texas.
