The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) volleyball team has swept the Sooner Athletic Conference Player of the Week awards for the third time this season. This is a repeat of the September 3-9 week when Suzanny Figueiredo, Celi Bruce , and Sophia Ivy took the honors. Attacker of the Week has been awarded to Suzanny Figueiredo. A Lion has won the award four out of the five weeks, twice to Figueiredo and twice to Kali Shaw . Celi Bruce has once again been named Defender of the Week for her third time in the 2018-2019 season. Junior, Sophia Ivy is Setter of the Week to go along with her prolific season winning the award four times this season.

This is Ivy’s seventh award for her career and probably won’t be her last with how constant she has been all season. She is currently ranked third in the nation with 11.220 assists per game and 22nd with 606 assists over the season. She is 0.1 away from second and 0.7 away from taking the top spot in the nation. She is also less than 70 assists away from being top ten in the nation for total assists on the season. Over the weekend she was all over the place with 49 assists, five digs, two kills and two blocks verse JBU on Saturday.

Bruce was awarded conference Defender of the Week for the fifth time in her time at SAGU. She is a 5’6 senior, Libero from Waxahachie, TX , who currently has 299 digs so far. That total is ranked nationally to go along with her 5.540 average digs per game which sits 18th in the nation. She is 0.4 away from being in the top ten nationally in that category. She had 19 digs during the JBU game to set the Lions up to score and finish that match. Bruce was also good for five assists to help SAGU win the conference battle.

Hitter, Suzanny Figueiredo has been better and better each week to help obtain her second conference award with a stellar match against John Brown University . She put together 19 kills against JBU in only four sets and six errors. She also had an impressive 17 kills and has a total of 180 on the season so far. Suzanny is ranked 37th in the nation with 3.630 kills per game with 196 total for the 2018-2019 campaign. 196 kills ranks in the top 65 nationally for total kills this season.

The Lady Lions are back in action this weekend as they travel to USAO and Mid-America Christian University . The game against USAO comes first on Friday at 7 pm then the game against MACU will be Saturday at 1 pm. SAGU is currently 16-1 on the season and 8-0 in SAC play sitting in 1st place.
