Waxahachie, Texas – April 12, 2016 – Southwestern Assemblies of God University’s (SAGU) Education Department offers a bachelor’s degree in English Language Arts & Reading (ELAR) that focuses on the knowledge and instruction of language arts, literature, and reading processes.
Heritage High School ‘s Instructional Technologist and Google Apps Certified Trainer Barbara Mikulecky said, “In my experience with any SAGU student teacher it seems like they are really prepared for their field! They have a strong grasp on both their content area and pedagogy. The programs are really solid.”
The program consists of 127 total hours and prepares students to not only work in the U.S. school system, but equips them to design curriculums for foreign countries as English specialists. Students use the degree to teach English in countries around the world.
SAGU Secondary Education Professor Khristy Strange said, “Having this degree provides the opportunity to travel abroad to teach English as a second language. This degree will help mission-minded individuals be an influence in creative access countries.”
Joanna Dubiel graduated SAGU double majoring in Secondary Education ELAR and Intercultural Studies. After graduation, Dubiel moved to Saipan , one of the Northern Marianas Islands in Micronesia, to teach advanced placement literature and biblical theology.
Dubiel implemented a new English curriculum and summer reading program. With these additions, she taught new instructors to effectively teach their students the new curriculum.
