Waxahachie, Texas – December 23, 2016- Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) volleyball player Paulyae Dawkins has added a few more post-season awards to her growing resume. Dawkins has been named to the National Christian Colleges Athletics Association’s (NCCAA) 1 st Team All-Central Region and Honorable Mention All-American teams.
“Paulyae had one of the best seasons we’ve seen in many years. Her offensive play allowed us to enjoy a very good season. We are very excited about the upcoming season,” says head coach Hank Moore .
2016 was Dawkins first season for the Lady Lions. She is a junior-transfer from Grand Prairie, Texas . For the season, Dawkins had 299 kills, averaging 2.58 kills per set. Dawkins hit 0.326 for the season, which ranks her no. 31 in the NAIA for hitting percentage. She also had 90 blocks for the season, 33 solo blocks and 57 assisted blocks.
In addition to her NCCAA awards, Dawkins was also named 1 st Team All Sooner Athletic Conference.
On top of Dawkins awards, SAGU had three players named as NCCAA Scholar-Athletes. Celi Bruce , Kaylee Worlow and Madison McClure all received the national honor. To be selected as a Scholar Athlete, the nominee must be a junior or senior and a varsity letter winner at the school of nomination. The student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.4 on a 4.0 scale.
