Nikki Almaguer makes SAC All-Tournament Team

Waxahachie, TX- The Sonner Athletic Conference (SAC) Tournament concluded Saturday In Oklahoma City, OK. Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) failed to bring home a championship, but Junior Defensive Specialist Nikki Almaguer was selected to the SAC All-Tournament Team.

The award is indicative of what the SAGU Libero had been bringing to the table all season long. She was consistently in the right spots to make a play. She was pivotal in rallying her teammates and quickly generating defense into offense.

Almaguer logged 513 digs this season. It was no shock to see that she continued her stellar play during the SAC Tournament. Nikki logged 27 digs in the Quarterfinals against Mid-American Christian University (MACU) and followed it up with 22 digs in the Semifinals against Oklahoma City University (OCU). During the 2019 season, Almaguer averaged 4.4 digs per game. She increased that to 5.4 digs per game in the SAC Tournament.

If there were one word to describe Almaguer throughout the course of the year it would likely be “dependable.” When other players can look around on the court and see their teammate always being in the right spots, playing at a high level and doing their job, it builds a sense of trust.

Head Coach Hank Moore spoke to the impact Nikki has had on her teammates and coaching staff this season and throughout the duration of her SAGU career.

Coach Moore on Nikki

“Nikki is a young lady who works as hard as any player that I have ever coached. Day in and day out Nikki brings a very high level of play to our court. Nikki is a three-year starter as a defensive specialist. This year after 12 matches she became our libero. She has made a great impact on our team on and off the floor. If you look at pictures of our team you will see #10 with a huge infectious smile. God has blessed SAGU Volleyball by us having Nikki on our team.”

SAGU Athletics would like to congratulate Nikki on the SAC All-Tournament honors and thank the team and coaching staff for another great season!
