APSAI students evacuate Bangkok Waxahachie , TX – October 28, 2011 – Assemblies of God Missionary Wayne Brown and his family, 13 Asia Pacific Student Abroad Initiative ( APSAI ) students, and five other missionaries have evacuated Bangkok, Thailand, due to the high risk of citywide flooding. The group will stay outside of the flood zone for the next nine days. The extensive flooding north of Bangkok has affected the supply warehouses, leaving many without food and water. Four of the 13 APSAI students are SAGU students: Jenna Duncan, Jenna Hooks, Jarrod Lawler and Caleb Tool.

Missionary Brown has requested prayer for protection, safe travels, provision and wisdom. He also requested that we pray for those already affected by the flooding, their church partners, and for a quick return to their campus.

According to CNN, the next high tide, expected on Saturday, is to be 13 feet high. The monsoon rains have affected more than 9.5 million people, making it the area’s worst flood in nearly half a century. Thailand government expects that it may take more than a month before waters will recede in some areas.

The Asia Pacific Student Abroad Initiative ( APSAI ) gives students from Assemblies of God universities the opportunity to continue their education while engaging in hands-on ministry in a different culture. Students work alongside missionaries, local churches, and parachurch organizations, participating in ongoing work to reach the people of Thailand.

Through slum ministry, teaching English, university outreach and other opportunities, APSAI students have a platform to be light in a Buddhist nation where less than 0.2% of the population has an authentic relationship with Jesus Christ.
