The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) split against Southwestern Christian University for close Sooner Athletic Conference matchups on both sides. Sheaffer Center was packed last night with this being the first home game back from Christmas Break. The women defeated SCU in OT by six, 73-66 for their fourth straight SAC victory in ten days. They now sit in 4th place behind Wayland Baptist University (10-0), Oklahoma City University (8-1), and John Brown University (8-2) . The men lost by 78-81 when they stole the ball with four seconds left in the game and missed an open three-pointer as time expired. The Eagles ended SAGU’s winning streak of four games Thursday night.
The Lady Lions had four of their five starts in double figures during this win: Lexi Rich (21), Kiara Glenn (19), Jenna Price (17), and Sydney Meador (12) . Jenna Price had her second double-double in their past three games with 14 rebounds. She now ranks nationally in defensive rebounds per game, 5th, with 7.78 per game, 9th in total rebounds (182), 12th in total rebounds (10.11), 22nd in total blocks (22), 28th in blocks per game (1.22), and 46th in free throw percentage (77.9%). This is Rich’s 8th 20 point game of the season which lands in 12th national with 18.06 points per game. As a team, they are playing just as good as anyone in the SAC and their game on Saturday at Oklahoma City University should be one to watch. OCU is 12th in this week’s latest poll with other SAC member, WBU (5th) rounding out this list.
The men struggled last night shooting 28.6% from the field missing 55 total shots and 9-31 from the 3-point line for 29% during their three-point loss. Sophomore forward, Jalen Petillo led the way for the Lions in his fourth game back from injury with his first double-double of the season, 12 points and 15 rebounds. Sophomore guards, Cameron Hill and Josh Kashila both ended the night with 16 points ended each; Hill also had six rebounds, three assists, and three steals while Kashila has seven rebounds, two assists, and one steal. Darian Davis was near his first double-double of the season with 10 points and six rebounds. They are ranked in the top 20 nationally in the following categories; 1st in steals per game (11.71), 2nd total steals (199), 12th defensive rebounds per game (30.59), 15th in scoring offense per game (88.59), and 18th in field goal percentage defense (40.3%).
Both teams will travel to Oklahoma City University on Saturday for their matchups against the Stars. The women start at 2 pm, and the men will follow for a 4 pm tipoff.
