Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) football Central States Football League’s Players-of-the-Week Ethan Eastwood J.P. Lowery

“To have both players receive this award goes to show how hard both of these guys work,” says head coach Frank Tristan , “J.P. ran the ball exceptionally hard.  He not only had over 100 yards rushing, but many of those yards were after initial contact.”

Lowery rushed for 101 yards on 16 carries in SAGU’s season opening 27-21 win over Howard Payne University . The junior from Clear Falls, Texas averaged 6.3 yards per carry while scoring three of the Lions’ four touchdowns. Lowery added a pass reception for seven yards.

“Ethan is a four-year starter for us, and each year he keeps getting better and better.  This award is a fitting way to begin his last season,” says Tristan.

Eastwood , who is a senior from Maypearl, Texas , garnered 13 total tackles, while wrapping up seven solo stops in the

Lions win over Howard Payne. Along with six assists, he added a sack for eight yards.

Looking ahead to next week, the Lions will play a strong East Texas Baptist University on Saturday, September 10, 2016.  ETBU is currently 1-0 after beating no. 21 Texas Lutheran.  The Lions will travel to Marshall, Texas and game time is at 7pm.
