Waxahachie, Texas- December 4, 2015- The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) men’s basketball team picked up their first Sooner Athletic Conference win for the season after topping Bacone College, 62-44. SAGU is now 7-2 overall and BC is 1-9.
Mid-way through the first half Bacone led SAGU 13-11 after a made free-throw by Evan Stewart . This would be the last time SAGU trailed in the game. The Lions were able to go on a run and with 3:01 left in the first half, Remington Mitchell made two free-throws that extended the Lions lead 30-20.
In the second half the Lions lead only grew despite SAGU shooting 28% for the night. Lucky for the Lions, Bacone’s shots weren’t falling either. The Warriors shot for 24%.
SAGU senior Rishaad Alexander led the Lions in scoring with a season-high of 14 points. He also had seven rebounds. Tyler Pate and Remington Mitchell each had seven points. Markey Young had eight rebounds. SAGU pulled in 34 offensive rebounds.
Bacone’s Brandon Chatman had 15 points. Evan Stewart had 12 points and 13 rebounds.
The Lions will travel to take on John Brown University on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at 3pm. JBU is currently 5-5 overall and 0-1 in the SAC after losing to Wayland Baptist 78-76.
