Kansas City, Missouri – March 16, 2016- The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) men’s basketball team is in Kansas City and ready for their first game of the Buffalo Funds NAIA National Championship .  The Lions received an at-large bid and will be playing LSU-Alexandria in round one.

LSUA is currently ranked no. two in the NAIA Coaches Top 25 Poll.  They currently have a 28-3 record.

The Lions are 20-12 and in the last NAIA Coaches Top 25 Poll they were receiving votes, however they were not ranked.

Looking at the match-up statistically it could be a very close game.  LSUA is averaging 84 points a game, SAGU is averaging 78.  Over the season, SAGU has made an impressive 350 three-pointers and LSU has hit 217 from behind the arc.

When it comes to rebounding, both teams are pulling down 42 rebounds per game.  The Lions are averaging over 10 steals per game and the Generals are averaging seven steals per game.

One of the LSU and SAGU’s common opponents is Wiley College .  WC topped SAGU two times, 68-65 and 62-58.  LSU Alexandria beat Wiley twice, 89-71 and 77-60.

This is the fourth year in a row SAGU has made it to the NAIA National Championship.  It was three years ago that the Lions made it to the championship game.  They finished second place to Georgetown Kentucky in a 88-62 loss.
