Dallas, Texas- February 29, 2016- The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) softball team played a non-conference doubleheader against University of Dallas .  Dallas swept the Lady Lions 10-0 in game one and 7-6 in game two.  SAGU’s Kelsey Coburn hit the team’s first home run of the season in the second game.

Game one:

Ashley Abair started on the mound for the Lady Lions.  She had four strike outs and 14 hits.

The first two innings remained scoreless.  In the bottom of the third, Dallas scored three runs.  In the fourth the Lady Crusaders extended the lead to five when Kotlar hit her first home run of the season.

Dallas picked up another five runs in the sixth to enact the run rule and end the game.

Game two:

SAGU jumped to the early lead in game two when Kelsey Coburn got on base by hitting a double to right center, scoring Amber Gignac . Ashley Nop was able to reach base on a fielder’s choice, scoring Coburn.

In the second and the third innings the Lady Crusaders were able to pick up one run each to tie the score going into the fourth.

In the top of the fourth, SAGU’s Ashlyn Stanfill scored an unearned run to put the Lions up 3-2.

In the fifth, Kelsey Coburn hit her first home run of the season, as well as SAGU’s first of the season, to left field.

Going into the sixth inning, the Lady Lions were in the lead 4-3.

SAGU picked up two runs off of Kristin Stringer’s single to center field.  Gignac and Stanfill both scored off of Stringer’s hit.

University of Dallas matched SAGU’s two runs with two runs of their own in the bottom of the sixth. Alexandria Compte hit a nicely-timed home run.

Going into the final inning of the game, SAGU had the slim lead, 6-5.

The Lady Lions were unable to score in the seventh.  In Dallas’ last bat of the game, Kotlar place a hard hit into center field that would break the 6-6 tie and score Cervantes for the game winning run.

For the Lady Lions, Kelsey Coburn was an impressive three for three at bat, with two RBI’s and two runs scored.  One hit was a double and one was a home run.

Hannah Lee pitched for SAGU in game two.  She had five strike-outs and 12 hits.

The Lady Lions will play at home on Tuesday, March 1, 2016.  They will begin Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) play when they host Texas Wesleyan University .  TWU is currently 7-7.  The first game of the doubleheader begins at 1pm.
