Waxahachie, Texas – November 10, 2016- The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) men’s basketball team topped Arlington Baptist College 95-81 on Thursday evening.  The Lions rallied after suffering their only loss in the season earlier in the week to Wiley College.  SAGU is now 5-1.

“We came out flat tonight feeling the effects of both traveling and our loss on Tuesday,” says head coach Donnie Bostwick , “I had a feeling that could be the case. Dallas Christian was coming off a quality win at St. Thomas and they came out sharp, getting to loose balls and beating us on the glass. I had to push a couple buttons and it was good to see them respond. We have so many new players that are learning on the job.”

The first half of play went markedly in ABC’s favor.  The Patriots led for the first 17 minutes of play.  With six minutes left in the half, Arlington Baptist extended their lead to 12 points.

The Lions were able to quicken the pace and play their signature-style of fast play to finish out the half.  SAGU was also able to hit free-throws in bonus to pull ahead in the final few minutes of the half.  Heading into the locker room they were up by six, 43-37.

Within the first 2:30 minutes of the second half, SAGU was able to grow their lead to double digits after a made basket by Isaak Rowe.  From that point on, the Lions firmly held the lead.

Each of SAGU’s five starters scored in the double digits.  Senior Keyunta Watkins led the Lions with 19 points and two steals. Kentton Williams had 16 points, Lance Tipton added 13 points, Jalen Williams scored 12 points and Isaak Rowe added 10 points. Adrian Palacios came off the bench to score 11 points and pull in seven rebounds. Dareny Sims also had seven rebounds.

Coach Bostwick was happy with the way his bench played, “I was very pleased with the production of both Dareny Sims and Adrian Palacios off the bench. They sparked us at the end of the half and we were able to take momentum into halftime. We showed signs of turning the corner and competed better at times the second half.”

On Monday, November 14, 2016, the Lions will host Paul Quinn College at 7pm.
