Waxahachie, Texas- November 6, 2015- The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) men’s basketball team topped Dallas Christian College (DCC), 92-71.  The SAGU Lions are now 3-1 for the season.

“I was happy with our overall effort. Emmanuel, Isaak, and Elbert really did a nice job keeping an edge on the game,” head coach Donnie Bostwick says of the late-night game that didn’t end until after 10:30pm.

In the first 30 seconds of the game, DCC’s D. Hearn scored a three point shot to give them the initial lead.  That, however, did not last long. Isaak Rowe and Remington Mitchell both scored within the next minute to put SAGU ahead and the Lions never looked back.  By the end of the first half, SAGU was up 50-25.

Statistically the game was fairly close in turnovers and field goals.  However, the Lions excelled in free throws, making 33 of 48 for 69% while DCC only had the opportunity to make seven of 15 for 47%.  SAGU also dominated on the boards pulling down 24 offensive rebounds and 44 defensive rebounds.

Senior Emmanuel Adoyi had another double/double, scoring 17 points and getting 14 rebounds.  Five other SAGU players scored in the double digits; Tyler Pate had 16 points, Micah Gentry scored 12, Rowe and Mitchell both had 11 and Elbert Lawrence scored 10.  Lawrence also had nine rebounds and two steals for the Lions.

“We have a few days now to practice and after a few games we need this time to make some adjustments,” says Bostwick, “ I am excited about teaching this group and watching how far they can grow as a team.”

On Tuesday, November 17, 2015, SAGU will play at Jarvis Christian College. Game time is at 7:30 pm.  SAGU will be JCC’s second game of the season.
