Muskogee, Oklahoma – April 2, 2016- The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) baseball team returned to Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) play with a series against Bacone College.  The Lions won one and lost two (L 11-7, L 3-2, W 17-8). 

Game One (L 11-7)

SAGU got an early jump on the Warriors, scoring four points in the top of the first.  Leadoff hitter Griffin Glenn doubled to left field.  Jake Killion hit a sacrifice bunt and was putout but advanced Glenn to third.  Payonk singled to right, scoring Glenn.  Tallon Ralstin singled to right, scoring Payonk.  Carson Conarty doubled to right scoring both Castro and Ralstin. 

In the top of the third, Ralstin hit a double to lead off.  Chris Wallace singled to left, scoring Ralstin.  Glenn doubled to left-center, scoring Conarty.  After the top half of the third, the Lions led 6-0.  However, Bacone was quick to score six points of their own in the bottom of the third partially thanks to two SAGU errors. 

In the top of the fifth, Elijah Young homered to left field on a 3-2 count.  That was the end of SAGU scoring and BC added five more runs in the seventh. 

For the Lions, Griffin Glenn went three for five with two doubles.  Tallon Ralstin went three for five with one double and two runs scored. 

Colton Glover started on the mound for SAGU.  He pitched two and one/third innings with three strike outs.  Collin Gifford pitched three and two/thirds inning.  Anthony Montalvo and Jake Clary each pitched one inning. 

Game Two (L 3-2)

SAGU picked up one run in the first and last inning of game two.  Eric Hagstrom scored after Griffin Glenn grounded out to short in the top of the first.  In the top of the seventh, Eric Hagstrom singled to left, scoring Chris Wallace in the process. 

For Bacone, pinch hitter Emmanuel Mendez homered in the bottom of the fifth to left field on a 3-2 count. 

Brandon Venture pitched five innings for SAGU.  He had six strikeouts while giving up four hits.  Mark Martinez pitched one inning in relief. 


Offensively, Hagstrom went three for three with one run scored. 

Game Three (W 17-8)
In game three, SAGU’s bats came alive.  In only the third and fifth innings did SAGU not score any runs.  Griffin Glenn, Elijah Young and Raul Castro each had one home run in the game.   Both Young and Castro’s homers scored three runs each. 

For the Lions, Eric Hagstrom went three for six, with one double, one RBI and three runs scored.  Jake Killion went three for four with two runs scored.  Griffin Glenn was two for three with three RBI’s.  Elijah Young went two for three at the plate, with one home run, one double, four RBI’s and two runs scored.  And finally, Raul Castro with three for five, with one home run, three RBI’s and two runs scored.  Currently, Castro is batting 408 for the season. 

SAGU’s Jacob Keltner picked up the win on the mound.  Keltner pitched five innings with four strike outs and eight earned runs.  Mark Martinez pitched one inning and Carson Conarty pitched one inning. 

On Tuesday, April 5, 2016, SAGU will host Howard Payne University for one game.  Game time is at 2pm.  HPU is 11-9 overall.
