SAGU started the series off with a bang. For the first time this season they topped a nationally ranked opponent. SAGU started Taylor Evans on the mound. Evans pitched two innings. Ty Behinger pitched four innings, picking up the win. Tyler Warren pitched the final three innings.
USAO was the first to score, scoring one run in the bottom of the first. SAGU answered and scored two runs in the top of the second with bases loaded and two outs, Josh Terry singled, driving in two runs.
At the end of two, the score was tied 2-all. SAGU scored next, in the top of the fifth the Lions had three runs after a three-run homer by Raul Castro.
In the bottom of the sixth, USAO answered with two runs of their own, making the score 5-4 SAGU.
The Drovers scored one run in both the seventh and ninth inning, however, it was not enough to top the Lions.
Josh Terry went two for five at the plate with one double. Terry had two RBI’s and one run scored. Castro went three for four with four RBI’s and two runs scored.
Game Two (L 13-3)
USAO had two huge innings that scored all 13 of their runs. In the bottom of the second the Drovers picked up seven runs. USAO had one grand slam by Greg Barnette, followed by a two-run homer hit from Wyatt Hull.
In the bottom of the fourth, USAO hit another home run to help score six more runs. The home run was hit by Kenniel Rivera.
In the top of the fifth, SAGU picked up their three runs. P.J. Garcia hit a single and had two RBI’s. Raul Castro had a sacrifice fly to right field that scored Chris Wallace.
Game Three (L 10-0)
The Lions had a difficult time getting anything going at the plate. SAGU had five hits all together. Two of those five hits came from SAGU senior Raul Castro.
The closest the Lions came to scoring was in the top of the second when they had two hits and left two on base.
USAO’s Jose Hidalgo pitched six innings for the Drovers. Mason Stasyszen pitched the final inning in relief.
