Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) men’s soccer John Brown University Sooner Athletic Conference

The first half of the game was a consistent battle of possession between both teams. The Lions maintained control until a turnover in their territory gave JBU a counter attack that resulted in a goal. At the end of the first half the Lions were down 1-0.

Going into the second half, the Lions came back stronger. Unity within the team is what allowed for freshman Mazvita Chidarara to strike the ball to the net. With the game now being tied, possessions become crucial. JBU soon attacked an open opportunity and capitalized making the score 2-1. Later towards the last 10 minutes of the game, JBU found a header in the top of SAGU’s 6-yard box which caused the Lions to be down 3-1 at the final buzzer of regulation.

Assistant Coach Caesar Espana stated, “The boys proved that they can compete with anyone and this game was a crucial learning experience. The closer we mesh and stick to the game plan, the better we will compete against any team in this conference.”
