Waxahachie, TX- Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) was back at the friendly confines of the Sheaffer Center in hopes of ending their four-game losing streak against Central Christian College (Kan.) (CCCK). The Lions (8-8, 3-6) were able to even up their overall record by beating the Tigers (5-11, 2-7) by the score of 91-70.
Top Performers
- Lexi Rich ( SR/San Antonio, TX ) hit seven three-point shots as she scored a game-high 34 points.
- Tamera Derrough ( SO/Mansfield, TX ) posted her season-high in scoring with 20 points.
- Kiara Glenn ( JR/Ennis, TX ) (14) and Sydney Meador ( JR/Denton, TX ) (13) also posted double-figure points.
- Alexis Casher ( JR/Irvington, AL ) pulled down 10 rebounds.
- The Lions were all over the glass as they snatched 53 rebounds compared to CCCK’s 41.
- SAGU didn’t shoot it particularly well from the field 33% (31-80) 35% (11-31).
Lions Review
- Rich and Derrough were the only Lions to score as they put together a 16-9 advantage with 5:27 left in the first quarter.
- SAGU finished the quarter on an 8-2 run to take a 24-11 into the second quarter.
- Rich would kickstart another run as the Lions were all over the Tigers 31-13.
- The Lions lived at the free-throw line throughout the quarter going 8-9 to extend the lead 47-31 at the half.
- CCCK hit a three to open the second half, but Rich hit back-to-back triples to take the wind out of the Tigers’ sails.
- The Lions’ lead ballooned to 60-40 with 3:40 left in the third quarter.
- An 11-2 run gave SAGU the commanding lead 71-42 entering the final quarter.
- The Tigers battled until the end, but the Lions won comfortably 91-70.
Coach Phillips’ Thoughts
- “It felt good to get back in the win column tonight. I was really proud of our effort on both ends of the floor. We had four players in double-digits and felt like we shared the ball really well tonight. It is time for things to start clicking for us so we can turn this thing around.”

SAGU (8-8, 3-6) look to get another win against Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) opponent Langston (Okla.) (5-7, 3-5) on Saturday 25 th at 2:00 pm at the Sheaffer Center on SAGU campus.
