Waxahachie, Texas – January 28, 2017- The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) baseball team is off to a perfect 4-0 start after sweeping Randall University .  On Saturday afternoon the Lions outscored RC 11-9 and 15-10.

“I was really proud of our entire team.  I thought our pitchers threw well, and for the most part, the defense and offense played well.  I was also proud of our upperclassmen and their leadership.  Our younger guys all showed great competitiveness throughout the weekend,” says head coach Sam Blackmon .

Game One

The star of game one was SAGU’s Raul Castro .  Castro hit two six-run home runs in both the bottom of the first and the bottom of the fifth.  His first home run went over the left field fence.  The second home run went over the center field fence.  Castro also had a double, going three for four overall at the plate.

Spenser Hart started on the mound for SAGU.  He pitched two and one/thirds innings with two strike-outs and five hits. Ethan Greiner pitched one and one/thirds innings and Jake Clary pitched three and one/thirds innings.  Clary had six strike-outs.

Game Two

The second, third and fourth innings were big for the Lions.  In the second they scored four runs and in the third and fourth innings they put up five runs each.

Josh Terry went three for four at the plate, he had six RBI’s and scored one run. Jake Killion also went three for four with three runs scored.

The Lions went through six pitchers in the final game of the series. Tanner Lindle started on the mound and went for two and two/thirds innings before Taylor Evans came in for the win.

Even though the Lions picked up the win, Coach Blackmon is ready to get back to work next week, “Obviously there are things to make improvement on, but most are simple adjustments and players will start that on Monday.”

On Friday and Saturday, February 3 and 4, 2017, SAGU will host another four-game homestand against Central Christian (Kansas).  Friday’s games will begin at 4pm at the Waxahachie Sports Complex .  Saturday’s games will be played at SAGU beginning at noon.
