Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) men’s basketball John Brown University Sooner Athletic Conference
In mid-January, the Lions lost to JBU in a 71-64 contest at home. SAGU was ready for Golden Eagles this time around.
The Lions held the lead for the entire game, however, in the first half the game was very close. With 3:19 left in the first half, SAGU’s Keyunta Watkins hit a basket to give SAGU an eight point lead 32-24. With 0:35 on the clock, JBU’s Brandon Joseph hit a three pointer to bring the game within two points. That didn’t rattle the Lions much and on the next trip down the floor, SAGU’s Isaak Rowe drained a three to give SAGU the 37-32 halftime lead.
A few different times in the second half SAGU had an 11-point lead, but that was the most the Lions could pull away. At the four minute mark, SAGU held a ten point lead. In the final four minutes, JBU went on an 11-4 run, but it wasn’t enough momentum to propel past the Lions.
For the contest, SAGU only had five turnovers, while forcing 11 for JBU.
The Lions were led in scoring by sophomore Isaak Rowe with 22 points and six assists. Keyunta Watkins added 14 points, Josh Swearingin and Lance Tipton each had 12 points. Tipton also had eight rebounds.
JBU’s Jake Caudle scored 21 points.
On Saturday, February 4, 2017, SAGU will play Bacone College at 5pm. BC is currently 4-16.
