Waxahachie, Texas- August 30, 2015- The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) men’s soccer team got their first win of the season on Saturday when they beat Jarvis Christian College (JCC), 2-1. SAGU is now 1-1 for the season.
Around the 10 minute mark JCC received a yellow card. SAGU’s Robert Ambrosie kicked a penalty kick for a goal, putting SAGU up 1-0.
In the 58 th minute, SAGU’s Gerardo Nava found the back of the net on an assist from Ambrosie. SAGU led 2-0.
Jarvis was able to score one goal at 70:08. JCC’s Julio Jimenez scored the lone goal.
The game was a physical showdown. Jarvis recorded 12 fouls compared to SAGU’s six.
SAGU head coach Clem Oancea was determined to work on finishing the game strong after Wiley College came from behind to beat the Lions in the last 20 minutes of the game earlier in the week. Oancea was pleased with his team’s victory.
On Saturday, September 5, 2015 SAGU will host Texas College (1-0). Game time is at 5pm.
