Austin, Texas – September 15, 2016- The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) men’s soccer team remains unbeaten. The Lions topped Huston-Tillotson 3-2 in an overtime victory. The Lions are now 5-0-1.
Despite the unseasonably warm temperatures, the Lions were able to come up with the win. “It wasn’t our best game. We fought hard for the win and in the end we got it,” explained assistant coach Cesar Espana , “We made this game hard on ourselves because we didn’t put our chances away when we had them. We are happy to leave Austin with the win.”
Isai Velasquez scored in the first five minutes of play. SAGU’s Danny Castro hit a ball from outside of the 18 and scored in the 36 th minute.
HTU was able to answer every one of SAGU’s goals in the first half. HTU scored at the 25 minute mark as well as the 32 nd minute of play.
The second half of the game remained scoreless by both teams, forcing the game into overtime.
Three minutes into extra time, freshman Jose Candelas stepped up scored from inside the box.
The Lions will host Texas College (3-2) on Saturday, September 17, 2016. Game time is at 5pm.
