Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) men’s soccer Texas Wesleyan University Sooner Athletic Conference

“It was a disappointing performance and result when we could have taken the three points,” explains head coach Clem Oancea , “Having the lead twice and giving it away is not acceptable and missing great opportunities is something you will always pay for in one way or another.”

At the 31 minute mark, the Lions’ Bryan Callejas scored off an assist by Danny Castro .  SAGU kept the lead for the next 30 minutes.

62 minutes into the game, TWU’s Will Graham scored to tie the score.

Four short minutes later, SAGU’s Isai Bonilla-Velasquez scored to once again give the Lions the lead.  Although, the lead was short-lived, with 15 minutes left to play, TWU scored one final time to tie the game at two.

In the second overtime, SAGU had a very promising look at the goal after Isai Bonilla-Velasquez had a breakaway from a defending set piece that he was able to take the length of the field.  The shot went high and was unable to convert into a goal.

The Lions will have nearly a week off for fall break.  The next game is Tuesday, October 18, 2016 when they host Mid-America Christian University .  Game time is at 3pm.  MACU is currently 2-9 for the season.
