Another sweep took place for the Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) basketball teams as Langston University came to Waxahachie Thursday night. The women lost the first quarter by four points then some adjustments were made to take control the next three quarters and winning their fourth conference game of the year by 16. The men dominated the #4 team in the country being up by as much as 29 midway through the second half. Langston was up 7 to 9 five minutes into the game for their last lead of the game, SAGU won 90-66.
The women had seven of their nine players with more than five points behind this victory, they also had 10 steals and three blocks which was key to holding them to 60 points; Lexi Rich (17), Kiara Glenn (17), Jenna Price (13), Sydney Meador (9), DyTeesha Diggles (8), Tamera Derrough (6), and Mckenzie Martin (6) . Price had another double-double with 13 rebounds to go along with her 17 points, Diggles had four offensive rebounds which helped the Lady Lions win the rebounding margin by six. Rich had a near triple-double with eight rebounds and six assists with 17 points. This is their second Sooner Athletic Conference victory in a row and their fifth win in their last seven matchups.
Langston came in playing as well as any in the country with one loss on the season and five points away from being ranked #1 in the country. The Lions handled them easily and made a statement being up by 20 for most of the game; Cameron Hill had a huge first half with 19 points. Josh Kashila had 20 points going 7-12 from the field, 2-4 from 3, and 4-8 from the FT. Freshman, Nyk Mason shot 61.5% from the field for 19 points, four rebounds, and one steal. Dareny Sims led the Lions in rebounds with eight, he also had four points and two assists. Kobe Wrice tied his season high for rebounds on the night with seven to go along with eight points. SAGU has won three SAC games in a row and six of their last eight.
Next up for the Lions is Central Christian College on Saturday, 1/12/19 in Waxahachie, TX. The Tigers are 10th on the men side and 11th for the women; these games will begin at 2 pm then the men will follow at 4 pm.
