The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) baseball team has swept Sooner Athletic Conference opponent three games to zero after outscoring the Warriors 38 runs to 21. The Lions are in eight place of the SAC and one game behind Oklahoma Panhandle State University for the seventh spot. SAGU is 22-25 overall and 8-16 in conference play with one regular-season series left against Texas Wesleyan University.
Game one the Lions could not be stopped offensively behind 22 runs, 21 hits, five home runs, and four doubles. Ben Bills, Andrew Diaz, AJ Munoz each had one home run each while Joseph Vazquez went four for six with two home runs and five RBI’s. Kyle Coolidge went three for six with all of his hits being doubles for three RBI’s and James Yarbrough had the other double after going one for three. Lorenzo Galicia was recorded with the win after only allowing one hit in 2.2 innings of work with two earned runs.
Day two started out with a two to two tied game until the top of the seventh inning when they added two runs to their total to give the Lions their 21st win of the season. Coolidge had back to back three-hit games after going three for three with two of the four RBI’s. Bills and Hunter Johnson had the other RBI’s; Bills and Vazquez were the other SAGU players with multi-hit games. Besides having a stellar offensive game Bills also pitched the full game and was recorded with the win after allowing six hits for two earned runs while striking out eight Warriors.
The last game of the series the Lions started off the way they finished scoring 12 runs in the first four innings to finish the sweep against Bacone. Yarbrough led the Lions offensively going two for four with four RBI’s then Vazquez and Contreras were the other SAGU players with two RBI’s each. Augie Martinez won his fourth game of the season after holding the Warriors to two runs to finish their series in Oklahoma.
