The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) baseball team split against Texas College to propel their record to 7-7. The first game resulted in a 4-6 loss when four Tigers had multi-hit outings. The last game of the series SAGU’s, Joseph Vazquez contributed four RBI’s from going four for four behind a 6-3 victory.

SAGU scored first in the bottom of the first inning during game one when Tanner Lindle hit a single that scored AJ Munoz , Munoz reached on base from a single hit to center field. Texas College scored four runs in the 3rd inning; Carlos Collazo started the inning with a double that gave the Tigers hope with five hits in this inning alone. Munoz was just short of a home run but scored Derrick Clement on a double then Munoz was later brought in when Ben Bills hit a grounder to the shortstop; Tigers up 3-4. The Lions tied the game up in the bottom of the 7th that would extend the game to extra innings when Vaquez hit a sac-fly to score Clement again. The Tigers struck first when Emanuel Jeminez doubled to right-center, Nicholas Babineaux scored after stealing second. One more run would be brought in and the Tigers finished the Lions on a double-play giving them the 4-6 victory for the first game.

Game two started with the Lions striking first again when their pitcher threw a ball the catcher was unable to receive that would score Clement.  Vazquez started his big day off with a single to center scoring Munoz. Texas College would score three in the 3rd and 4th innings off of an error in the 3rd then a sac-fly in the 4th. The Lions would finish the game scoring four runs when Vazquez hit a single to the outfield in each inning that brought in three runs; Lions win their 7th game of the season 6-3. Dennis Smith pitched four innings giving up two hits and three earned runs while striking out two of his 14 batters. Logan Mann recorded three innings of work only allowing two hits and zero runs.

They will face Arlington Baptist University next Tuesday, 2/19 in Waxahachie, TX , at 3 pm for a one-game battle. This is the first meeting against ABU since the 2013 season where they split 2-2 in the series.
