The third series of the season for the Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lion baseball team resulted in a 1-3 record at Wiley College . SAGU went one and one on day one and 0-2 on the final day of the series against the Wildcats.

The Lions struck first in the top of the second inning but gave up three runs in the bottom of the second when Manuel Torres hit a deep triple down the right-field line. Both teams scored one run each in the third for the last runs of the game resulting in a 2-4 loss for SAGU. AJ Munoz and Sonny Boyd both had hits that resulted in the two RBIs for the Lions. Augie Martinez pitched all six innings, striking out four of the 17 batters he faced and gave up three hits.

SAGU finished the second game well scoring six innings in innings three through six giving them their sixth win of the season, 6-2. The key behind this victory was seven players having hits in this game and four with double hit outings: Munoz (two hits, two runs), Kyle Coolidge (two hits, one run), Andrew Diaz (two hits, one run), Ryan Cole (two hits, one run), Derrick Clement (one hit, one RBI), Ben Bills (one hit, one RBI), and Kyle Contreras (one hit, one run, two RBIs). Dennis Smith faced 15 batters in 4.1 innings, giving up four hits and two earned runs then Logan Mann finished the game for a near perfect outing allowing zero runs in 2.2 innings and only one hit.

The third game was tied four to four going into the fifth inning; the Wildcats closed the game out not allowing another run while scoring two, 4-6 Wiley. The Lions four errors to the noon game hurt them after one came at a pivotal time in the fifth inning. Clement and Munoz stayed consistent on the weekend adding another RBI each under their belt. First baseman, Jared Anderson also scored a run from a sac-fly in the fourth that scored Cole. Bills had his work cut out for him on the mound facing 23 batters in five innings, he was recorded for one of the five runs due to errors.

A similar situation happened in the fifth and sixth innings of the fourth game when Wiley scored six of their nine runs. Munoz added three more RBIs on the weekend, he is now ranked nationally in triples, total bases, total runs scored, total hits, total at-bats, total doubles, home runs, and triples per game. DFW native, Tanner Lindle went two for four on the day bringing in one run for his third of the season.

Texas College will come to Waxahachie on Wednesday 2/13 for their next games; the games will begin at 12 pm followed by 2 a pm start time.
