Waxahachie, Texas–March 22nd–Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Women’s Basketball Sophomore Lexi Rich has been named to the NAIA All-American Honorable Mention team for 2017-2018.

Rich is a sophomore guard from San Antonio, Texas and is a two-year starter for the Lady Lions. This season Rich averaged a team high 15.4 points per game, 4.6 rebounds per game, and shot 44% from the 3-point line. The Lady Lions finised their season in the quarterfinals of the Sooner Athletic Conference with a loss to Wayland Baptist University.

Head Coach Tiffany Phillips was proud of the sophomore’s accomplishments. Phillips said, “Lexi is so very deserving of this honor. She is the player that never leaves the gym and when she does she has the basketball with her because she is going to find somewhere to shoot. She worked hard to develop her game and her skills this summer and all throughout the season. Most importanly, Lexi is an outstanding person of character and shines the light of Jesus everywhere she goes. She has grown and matured so much as a player and a person this season. I am extremely proud of her.”

Rich was honored but a little surprised by the announcement today. She said, “honestly, it caught me by surprise. Obviously being an All-American has always been a personal goal for me, so it’s awesome to see myself getting closer to it. I couldn’t have done it without my coaches and teammates believing in me and trusting me with the ball. It definitely fires me up and makes me want to work even harder on my game this off-season.”

Rich was one of nine honored from the Sooner Athletic Conference.
